On Friday, the Editors met to began establishing the proofreading process. We have elected to do tandem proofreading (following ADE best practices) meaning that one person reads out the text of the manuscript while the other follows along with the transcription, making edits as needed. This relatively straightforward process was made somewhat tricky by the fact that we are proofreading for not only the content, but the XML tags. Right now, we reading only the content out loud and allowing time for the person with the transcription to check the tags silently, and we're running some of the transcriptions through oXygen (errors in tags are highlighted by oXygen, making it easier to find mistakes).

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to experiment with the proofreading to see what works best with one Editor and one Assistant and how best to check the content and tags...
